A Hummingbird Birthday Card

When I think of birthday cards made with a Cricut, I usually picture simple, flat designs—just a message or cut-out shapes where you place colored cardstock underneath to reveal a cake, balloons, or other decorations. You know what I mean, right?

Since I’m used to making multi-layered cards with lots of depth and details, I had a hard time finding a Cricut-friendly birthday card that met my expectations. After downloading this file from Creative Fabrica, I easily uploaded it to Design Space. I loved the color combinations that came with the design, but I made a few tweaks—I changed the background color since I didn’t have enough dark grey cardstock and removed the folding line from the design. I usually use my scoring tool to fold cards in half, and I had no trouble finishing this hummingbird card.

To make this card, I only needed five colors of cardstock: two shades of bright green, bright pink, bright purple, and dark grey. Assembling it was super simple—I just used paper glue, and the card was finished in under 15 minutes. Quick, easy, and absolutely beautiful!

Tip: Next time, I’d add an extra layer in pastel green beneath the dark grey layer and use foam dots to lift the hummingbird for a bit more dimension.
