Make New Baby Pop Up Card with Sizzix

There’s something extra special about giving a handmade card when a new baby arrives. It’s more than just paper and glue — it’s a keepsake made from the heart. Today, I want to show you two of my favorite homemade new baby card creations — one for a baby girl and one for a baby boy — made using my Sizzix Big Shot and a bit of creative joy.
If you're hunting for Sizzix card ideas or looking to try Sizzix card making for newborns, this project is a great place to start. They are rather simple, but really pack a wow factor when the card pops open! These handmade newborn pop up card ideas are perfect for baby showers, for welcoming a new little one home, or even as a lovely addition to your gift. Bonus? They can also double as nursery décor! Also, if you need ideas about what to write in a new baby card, you can find them in this blog post.
A Gift That Lasts - Personal, Sweet, and Made with Love
Both cards were made with the Sizzix Big Shot, using baby-themed die cuts like a stroller, bib, pacifier, and those tiny, sweet baby footprints. I used the same die cuts for both cards but chose different patterned backgrounds — pink for the baby girl and turquoise for the baby boy — to match their gender and give each card its own unique charm.
I love personalizing cards with the baby’s name. For these, I used letter die cuts and matched the paper color to the rest of the design — soft pink for Baby Ena and light turquoise for Baby Luka. Adding the name gives the card that sweet personal feel that store-bought cards just don’t have (not that I have something against them, I also make digital cards).

To make the white die cuts stand out more, I backed the open spaces with small pieces of pink or blue cardstock. It’s a small trick that gives the design more depth and makes the shapes look fuller and more polished from the front.
All the pop-up elements are attached with acetate (clear plastic foil), making them look like they’re floating in midair. I used double-sided tape to stick everything in place without visible glue or mess — it keeps the look clean and lets the details shine.
On top of each name, I added a tiny extra detail: a princess crown for the girl and a fluffy cloud for the boy. Just a little embellishment, but it makes such a difference!
For the message, I hand-lettered “Dobrodošla!” (Welcome!) on front card flap. Of course, you can always use a stamp or die cut if you prefer. The idea is to add a warm greeting to tie the whole design together.
If your card has enough space, you could also:
Add the baby’s birth details like date, weight, and time.
Include a tiny pocket for a gift card or a small personal note.
Add a mini photo frame element for baby’s first picture — imagine how cute that would be!
Whether it’s for a baby shower, a hospital visit, or just a “welcome to the world” moment, these homemade new baby cards aren’t just greetings — they’re keepsakes. I love knowing that they might end up on a nursery shelf, becoming a little part of the baby's early memories. Just look at how adorable they are — they easily sit on a shelf and bring a smile every time someone sees them.
If you're just getting into card making or are always on the lookout for new handmade newborn pop up card ideas, I hope this gives you some inspiration to try something new and sweet.

Because these handmade new baby girl cards and handmade new baby boy cards are pop-up style and a little more dimensional, I make the envelopes myself using a scoring board. It’s super handy and allows you to match the envelope to the card’s size and style. I have a blog post about how to make an envelope using scoring board and you can check it out here.
